French House
This home, built by William Loyd French with help from Clyde Wilson in 1948–49, still stands on its original site. Known locally as the "half-house" due to budget constraints, only half was completed. Its rooms are cramped, the staircase is narrow, and an improvised indoor toilet sits in the kitchen corner. Mr. French also ran the Land Titles Office upstairs. A recreated District Nurses' Cottage is also featured upstairs, honoring nurses who lived here on rotation. They traveled by horseback—and even dog sled—to nearby farms, providing medical care, prescribing medicine, treating injuries, and offering health education.
